How hot is your house?

This superb project (brought to my attention via infosthetics) lets Belgian people see how much heat their house is chucking out.

The images were taken by a small aircraft with a thermal (infrared) camera and are zoomable and searchable by address, given people a pretty graphic view of their requirement for loft insulation.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.”

– Stephen Hawking

This image from The Hubble Space Telescope shows stars being born (among other things).

On Time? No. On Budget? No. On Spec? Er, No.

The story of Hubble’s own birth reads like a disaster story: 7 years overdue, a billion (or 2) over budget and unable to focus (not good if you’re human, catastrophic if you’re a space telescope). ‘Hubble Headlines’ were some of the earliest negative media coverage I can remember. Now those headlines are gone, replaced by a greatly enhanced understanding of the universe and some truly spectacular images.

Climbing the corporate ladder?

Perhaps, instead, you should find new ground to tread.

Hierarchy Vs Territory

If you’re a hierarchical beast you’ll probably feel happier doing what others are already doing, just a little better than they’re already doing it (careful though, those further up might not let you join them if you’re much better).

If you’re a territorial beast you’ll be happiest doing something new, something different, something you.

Are you a hierarchical or territorial animal?
